Spend An Evening At Angkor Wat with Jose Carreras

in Cambodia on Friday December 6, 2002

Our Magic at Angkor three night program includes an in-depth look at the vast holy city in the lush jungles of northern Cambodia built by Khmer kings between 800 and 1600 A.D.  While more than 80% of the seats have already been sold, please contact us to reserve your space.  Customize your visit by visiting nearby Thailand and Vietnam to complete your journey.

The event is supported by the Cambodian Government and is in aid of the Cambodian Red Cross, Landmines and WildAID.  José Carreras will be accompanied by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

The itinerary of our 3 day / 2 night Magic in Angkor  tour is:

December 5, 2002, Thursday.  Depart Bangkok, Thailand, by air at 11:30 AM for Siem Reap.  Arrive at 12.30.  Spiritual Journeys representatives will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel.   After lunch at the hotel, visit the most famous of all the temples on the plain of Angkor: Angkor Wat. The temple complex covers 81 hectares and is comparable in size to the Imperial Palace in Beijing. Its distinctive five towers are emblazoned on the Cambodian flag and the 12th century masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture. Angkor Wat's five towers symbolize Meru's five peaks - the enclosing wall represents the mountains at the edge of the world and the surrounding moat, the ocean beyond.  Sunset from Phnom Bakheng, one of the two hills dominating the plain of Angkor, from where you will have a spectacular view of the Western Baray and Angkor Wat.   Dinner at local restaurant and overnight at the hotel.

December 6, 2002/Friday.   After breakfast at the hotel, visit the antique capital of Angkor Thom (12th century): the South Gate with its huge statues depicting the churning of the ocean of milk, the Bayon Temple, unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara, the Royal Enclosure, the Phimeanakas, the Elephants Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King.  Return to the hotel for your lunch.  The afternoon is at leisure and then attend the concert.

The concert program is as follows:

6:45PM  Arrival of guests

7:00PM  Speech by H.E. Veng Sereyuth, Senior Minister of Tourism, Cambodia

7:10PM  Speech by Mr. Richard C. Helfer, Chairman of Raffles International

7:20PM  Speech by H.E. Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia

7:30PM Dinner commences with background music and video clips of charities

9:00PM   Concert begins with National Dance Troupe of Cambodia follwed by Jose Carreras with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra

10:45PM Combined Item with Cambodian Trope, Carreras and SSO with fireworks and pyrotechnics

11:00PM End of concert

Return to your hotel.

December 7, 2002/Saturday.  After breakfast at the hotel, visit the floating village of Chong Khneas, located 10 kilometers south of Siem Reap.  Visit the village and take a boat trip in a traditional wooden boat on the Tonle Sap Lake, the great Lake of Cambodia, one of the wonders of Asia.  Return to the hotel for your lunch.  In the afternoon, transfer to the archaeological site and continue the temples tour with Srah Srang,  "The Pool of Ablutions" which was doubtless used for ritual bathing, Takeo, Thommanon, Chau Say Tevoda and Ta Prohm, one of the most beautiful temples in the area, as it has been relatively untouched since it was discovered and retains much of its mystery.  Its appeal lies in the fact that, unlike the other monuments of Angkor, it has been left to be swallowed by the jungle, and looks very much the ways most of the monuments of Angkor appeared when European explorer first stumbled upon them (if time permits).  By this time you will be confident enough to venutre out on your own to sample dinner on your own.   After dinner, transfer to Siem Reap airport for departure flight to Bangkok departing at 19.30, and arriving Bangkok at 20.30.
